How a big tech company built its first online TV station in Tucson
As tech companies continue to build out their own digital TV networks, a smaller tech company is building one in Tucson.
In December, T-Mobile and Yahoo Inc. signed a deal to build a $50 million online TV channel called T-mobile’s T-Go, which would air the channels T-Mo and T-Zoo, as well as a smaller online TV show.
The new station will have a similar footprint as a larger, privately owned network, which is part of a broader strategy to build its own streaming service.
The company’s original plan to launch its own digital television network was delayed after the government banned cable and satellite providers from selling their content to T-Mobiles customers.
T-Mobile said its $50-million investment will give it access to an estimated 1.5 million homes in the U.S., about one-fifth of the population.
Tens of millions of households subscribe to cable or satellite TV, which makes up more than 90% of the U
