Why Amazon.com is losing its market share to Google
The tech giant’s market share in the United States is in free fall as it tries to compete with the Google-owned company, according to a report from a research firm.
Internet marketing company eMarketer estimated last week that Amazon had lost 5.4 percent of the U.S. market to Google by the end of 2018.
That was less than 1 percent of all online purchases in the country.
Amazon has a market share of just over 5 percent.
Google has a 33.3 percent market share.
Google is also gaining ground in China.
EMarketer estimates Amazon has lost around 6.6 percent of its online market share there to Google, while Google has gained 4.9 percent.
The report from eMarketers said Google’s market shares in the U, Europe and Asia had fallen by about 2 percent each in the past year.
